Ingredients + Materials:

  • Apples

  • Oranges

  • Cinnamon Sticks

  • Whole Cloves

  • Whole Star Anise

  • Mason Jar

  • Twine

  • Small ornament or charm for decoration

Directions for Drying Fruit:

  1. Prepare Fruit Slices: Slice fruit into even 1/4 inch thick slices. Place slices on a paper towel to absorb excess juice or leave them on the counter to air dry for a couple of hours.

  2. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Dehydrate Oranges: Place orange slices on a rack over a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake at 200 degrees for approximately 2 hours, flipping the slices every half hour. Ensure they are completely dried out.

  4. Dehydrate Apples: Follow the same process for apple slices. Cut thin slices, pat them dry, and bake at 200 degrees until dried out.

Assembling the Potpourri Jar:

  1. Fill the Jar: Once all fruit and spices are dried, fill your glass or mason jar with the mix. Opt for a larger jar with a wider mouth for easy assembly.

  2. Add Decorative Touch: Attach a small ornament or charm to the lid using twine or string. This extra touch adds a festive and personalized element to your potpourri gift.

  3. Get Creative: Feel free to experiment with your potpourri mix. Use a variety of fruits, spices, herbs, or even drops of essential oil for an extra kick. Let your creativity guide you.

How to Use the Potpourri:

  1. Prepare on Stovetop: Pour the mix into a saucepan and cover with water. Simmer on the lowest setting.

  2. Enjoy the Aroma: Revel in the delightful fragrance that fills your home. Place the saucepan on the back burner and periodically check to ensure the water level doesn't get too low.

  3. Reuse and Store: Pour out excess water from the saucepan, store leftovers in a sealed container, and refrigerate for future use.

Craft this scented masterpiece with your family, creating a magical blend of aromas and shared moments. Experience the joy of gifting handmade potpourri, bringing a touch of holiday magic to your homes and hearts. Happy crafting!
